Mirapoint Unveils Mobile Access Strategy for the Enterprise

New Osterman Research Validates Demand for Mirapoint’s Mobile Enterprise Solution

CHICAGO, (NXTcomm, Booth #5842) – June 18, 2007 – Mirapoint, the secure messaging expert today announced the company’s mobile access strategy and its commitment to providing secure, flexible and reliable mobility solutions for the growing mobile enterprise. Mirapoint today also announced a collaboration to extend email and calendar features to the mobile workforce with the introduction of the Nokia Intellisync Mobile Suite for Mirapoint. (See today’s related release entitled, “Mirapoint and Nokia Team to Extend Secure Messaging Solutions to the Mobile Workforce.”)

Comprehensive Mobile Access Plan
Mirapoint is committed to providing a complete strategy for email, covering security, access and management for enterprises. The Mirapoint Mobile Access strategy ensures that enterprise mobility receives the same level of security and reliability that Mirapoint offers in the company’s email and collaboration – security, ease of management and dial-tone reliability. Mirapoint’s unique appliance model also enables the company to provide messaging and collaboration for the widest array of devices. The company is committed to supporting open standards including IMAP IDLE and SyncML. In addition to Nokia, the company will support mobile devices from leading providers, including Research in Motion, maker of Blackberry, Motorola, Samsung, Sony Ericsson and others.

Mirapoint’s Mobile Access strategy is validated in a recent research by Osterman Research, “Key Messages in Mobile Messaging.” The primary market research survey was conducted with members of the Osterman Research Survey panel, focused on mobile messaging issues.

According to “Key Messages in Mobile Messaging,” the most useful applications employed on mobile devices, rated by respondents as either useful or extremely useful are email (85 percent), calendar and contact databases (76 percent) and the Internet/Web (61 percent). Other research that Osterman Research has conducted demonstrates that interest in wireless instant messaging is growing: a study on mobile messaging conducted by Osterman Research found that 40 percent of organizations will be interested or very interested in the use of instant messaging in 2007.

Michael Osterman, president and founder of Osterman Research stated, “The survey showed a high demand for mobile devices, which also means increased complexity and security risks for enterprises. Mirapoint’s Mobile Access strategy is timely and has the components enterprises require including security and ease of management when deploying their mobile devices.”

Mobile Messaging Threats
As confirmed in the Osterman survey, despite of message borne security threats and theft of mobility devices, enterprise mobility continues to be in demand with email and collaboration applications as the most sought after mobile applications. Only about two in five respondents’ mobile devices had any sort of virus protection deployed on it, although one in eight respondents did not know if anti-virus capabilities are available on their mobile device. Mobile device anti-virus capabilities will become increasingly critical as hackers and others increasingly target mobile platforms because of the growing penetration of these devices in the workplace.

“Many risks are associated with the increased demand of enterprise mobility – mobile viruses, SMS spam, and data theft,” said Barry Ariko, CEO, Mirapoint. “Mirapoint’s Mobile Access provides IT organizations the tools to extend management, security and regulatory compliance to a mobile infrastructure. Mirapoint will also support open standards as they emerge to ensure our customers have the flexibility to support their users’ requirements.”
