RazorGate with Embedded Policy Engine Insulates Critical Network Resources from Abusive Message Load

SUNNYVALE, Calif. - May 7, 2007 - Mirapoint, the secure messaging expert, today introduced the industry’s first autonomous email security appliance, designed to reject unwanted messages and enforce centrally managed email policies without reliance on any IT resources behind the corporate firewall.

Mirapoint’s RazorGate email security appliance with the Embedded Policy Engine™ provides enterprises and service provider customers with a more secure, scalable, and affordable architecture for enterprise email.  The Mirapoint solution’s unique architecture reduces total network traffic, reduces load on the corporate directory, and closes holes in the firewall.

Traditional email security products leave critical infrastructure exposed.  These systems have to query the corporate directory for each and every piece of incoming mail to check whether the recipient is valid.  As a result, every single message, whether ultimately accepted or rejected, generates additional load on the firewall, internal network, and the corporate directory.  Mirapoint’s RazorGate with Embedded Policy Engine eliminates this problem by validating recipients autonomously at the edge of the network for each message.

Delivering Autonomous Security at the Edge of the Network
Mirapoint’s Embedded Policy Engine enforces recipient validation and recipient-based policies without querying the corporate directory through the firewall for each message.  Only email addresses and policy service attributes are loaded into Mirapoint’s Embedded Policy Engine; no passwords or other sensitive information are stored outside the firewall.  Since there is no need for queries from the RazorGate to the corporate directory server, administrators can close off access to the corporate directories through the firewall.  User addresses and policies from multiple LDAP servers, such as Active Directory, Domino or eDirectory, can be automatically loaded into the RazorGate appliance.  While each RazorGate appliance enforces policies autonomously, RazorGates can be deployed as a load balanced cluster and managed centrally for efficient scaling.
