MIRAPOINT INTRODUCES NEW SERVER TO SUPPORT LARGE MESSAGING NETWORKS
Breakthrough Server Allows Internet Gold To Offer Reliable and Secure Messaging Services
SUNNYVALE, CA, December 13, 2000 - To help meet the unprecedented messaging demands of service providers, Mirapoint, Inc., a leading provider of Internet messaging infrastructure products, today introduced its highest performance server appliance, the M2000 Internet Message Server. The M2000 is combined with Mirapoint’s new cluster failover option, an architecture of redundant components that keeps the system up and running in the event of a server failure. The M2000 server and cluster capability enable service providers, such as Internet Gold in Israel, and large enterprises to offer carrier-grade performance with increased reliability.
The M2000 Internet Message Server is a purpose-built system designed to handle messaging exclusively, and gives service providers and enterprises the specific tools they need to keep up with the exploding demand for advanced messaging capabilities.
"Mirapoint was founded on the philosophy that messaging services are best delivered on specialized messaging computers rather than on messaging applications that reside on top of general-purpose systems," said Satish Ramachandran, Mirapoint’s CEO. "Our strategy and vision has enabled us to create a high-performing system to handle messaging environments with the most demanding service requirements."
A key component of the M2000 is its cluster capability. With this capability, a second redundant server automatically takes over if the active server fails, providing an additional level of insurance from unplanned downtime and removing any single point of failure on the server. The M2000 cluster capability enables service providers to offer meaningful service level agreements -- making it possible for ISPs and ASPs to target a new realm of customers with the assurance of guaranteed uptime and reliable service.
Internet Gold, Israel’s leading ISP based in Petach-Tikva, is already utilizing the M2000 to manage its exponential growth in messaging services. "With the M2000’s ability to handle larger networks, our growth is no longer limited by our equipment," says Erez Ya’ar, Internet Gold’s CTO. "We can now target new sets of customers, including the largest ones. And because Mirapoint’s solution is simple to deploy, we can begin offering customers service almost immediately after we’ve signed a contract."
The M2000 Internet Messaging Server combines both the software and hardware components that drive messages quickly through a network. The server’s unique messaging-specific design provides service providers and enterprises with a turnkey solution that can be deployed easily. It also enables faster time-to-market and greater scalability.
With the M2000, security risks are diminished because it uses SSL (Secure Socket Layer) and SSH (Secure Shell) encryption for all end-user mail access, message transport and system administration. The server also provides built-in virus and spam protection, and offers customizable filtering capabilities. These features enable administrators to prevent spam or messages that may contain viruses from entering the messaging network.
Another advantage of the M2000 is that it can be managed more easily than other messaging implementations. Functions extraneous to messaging are not a part of the operating system; consequently, all functions can be managed from a single point. All management tasks, from managing the storage system to adding users and passwords, are operated from a single GUI-based or command line management console.
The M2000 server includes WAPmail Direct and Webmail Direct, Mirapoint’s built-in Wireless Access Protocol (WAP) and Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) message access engines that eliminate the need for protocol translation from Post Office Protocol (POP) or Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP). These capabilities give users direct access to messages on any WAP or Web-enabled device.
The M2000 Internet Message Server is available now from Mirapoint in North America, Europe and Asia. It operates as a single stand-alone device, or in concert with Mirapoint’s Internet Message Router and Internet Message Switch. Pricing is based on the number of users per system.
