CTC Communications Selects Mirapoint As Its Platform for Deploying Standards-Based Unified Messaging Services

CUPERTINO, CA - November 29, 1999 -- Mirapoint, Inc., the leading provider of Internet infrastructure solutions for business communications, announced today that CTC Communications Corp. (NASDAQ: CPTL) has selected its Internet messaging platform for the deployment of the service provider’s unified messaging service offering. CTC, a rapidly growing provider of state-of-the-art integrated communications solutions for medium-to-larger enterprises in the Northeast U.S., will begin in December the first-phase deployment of its convergent Internet-based e-mail, fax, voice and video services, that are based on Mirapoint’s Internet messaging servers and routers.

Mirapoint’s solution will also serve as the core Internet messaging platform for delivering Cisco Powered Network services to CTC’s enterprise customers. These new services, currently under joint development by CTC and Cisco, are the result of a recently formed alliance between the two companies to deliver new network products and services for implementation on Cisco Powered Networks.

CTC has standardized on Mirapoint because its highly optimized, single-function systems are ideally suited for the large-scale distributed messaging architectures needed to deploy new offerings, such as unified messaging and IMAP-based messaging services. Mirapoint’s systems form the core of the "unified mailbox" messaging architecture and provide optimized, scalable message routing, delivery, storage and access functions. This core solution can be easily integrated with a variety of Internet messaging services that are customized to meet the needs of an individual or enterprise. Examples of such services include Internet calendaring and fax, policy-based messaging, virus/spam and content-based filtering.

"Mirapoint provides the critical infrastructure needed to support many of the industry’s most sophisticated new implementations of Internet messaging and telecom services," said Frederic Kunzi, CTC’s Chief Technology Officer. "Only Mirapoint delivers an Internet messaging platform that is designed and purpose-built to support new Internet messaging services. Their appliance approach makes it possible to easily and rapidly deploy a fully integrated messaging solution."

"Mirapoint shares the CTC/Cisco vision of the rapid convergence of e-mail, fax, voice and video," said Cheena Srinivasan, Vice President of Marketing with Mirapoint. "CTC’s decision to standardize on our Internet messaging platform underscores our market position as the only provider of a highly optimized solution that can readily manage the delivery, storage and access of disparate forms of Internet-based messages. We’re looking forward to working with CTC to usher in the age of unified messaging."
