Polar Communications Switches to Mirapoint's Messaging System
South Dakota Telco Migrates from Sendmail to Increase Reliability, Ease of Use

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Nov. 12, 2002 - Mirapoint today announced that PolarComm, an Internet and telecommunications service provider in North Dakota, replaced its Sendmail email solution with Mirapoint's M400 messaging server. PolarComm migrated 7,000 users in North Dakota and Minnesota to the Mirapoint system because its Sendmail product was difficult to use, and difficult and expensive to upgrade. PolarComm had outsourced its Webmail to a hosting company, but has now been able to provide that service in addition to POP and IMAP email via the Mirapoint messaging system.

PolarComm is a communications service provider that offers telephone, Internet access, cable TV, high-speed wireless, paging and cellular service to customers. Internet messaging is an important addition, and allows the service provider to stay in close contact with its customer base, alerting them to new services or changes in services.

"Life is so much simpler now that we have a Mirapoint system," said Karl Blake, supervisor of Internet operations for PolarComm. "The deployment took just three days for all our 7,000 users, and the Mirapoint system has never gone down. Now one solution takes care of all our needs and lets us offer a variety of services to our customers. We were especially pleased to see that Mirapoint integrates easily not only with Internet standards, but also with our LDAP server."

PolarComm reported that the Mirapoint M400 is exceptionally easy to manage and has performed flawlessly in its IT environment. "Now we have a single point for authentication," said Blake. "The help desk can manage the Mirapoint system very easily, in contrast to the Sendmail system, which was very difficult to manage and service. Mirapoint has helped us keep our costs down and our average revenue per user up."
