Mirapoint Delivers New Group Calendar & Getmail Services
New Offerings Broaden Mirapoint's "Single Platform, Multiple Services" Approach To Messaging

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Oct. 21, 2002 - Mirapoint today announced that it has integrated two new services-group calendar and POP email retrieval or "Getmail"-into the Mirapoint messaging platform for service provider, enterprise, education, and government customers. These new capabilities complement Mirapoint's existing services-including e-mail, personal calendaring, address book and to-do list-integrated on a single Mirapoint platform and accessible via any wireless or Web device. As with other services provided by Mirapoint, group calendar and Getmail offer customers industry-leading simplicity of management, flexibility, performance, and high availability at a reasonable cost.

"Key business communications applications, such as messaging and scheduling, are steadily converging," said Robert Mahowald, research manager with IDC. "Mirapoint's 'single platform, multiple services' approach is well-suited to meet these expectations for integrated access to these applications. Products like Mirapoint's group calendar and Getmail are designed to bring Mirapoint toward the forefront in terms of user convenience."

Mirapoint's group calendar gives end-users the ability to collaborate on managing appointments, events and resources as part of a portfolio of other mission-critical messaging services. Accessible from any web or wireless client and accessible from the same integrated interface as email, the Mirapoint calendaring services provide multiple views of scheduling information, as well as the ability to view and subscribe to other users' calendars. The group calendar service can be configured to automatically send meeting notifications, identify conflicts in meeting times or resource availability, and assign permissions for calendar access. An industry standard XML interface is also available for customers interested in building custom applications on top of the Mirapoint calendar.

Sega.com, the leading online and wireless gaming company, recently deployed Mirapoint's group calendaring service on its enterprise. "Mirapoint's calendaring functionality has been quick, easy, and cost-effective to implement," said Eugene Archibald, director of network operations for Sega.com, Inc. "Like Mirapoint's other messaging functionality, group calendaring is based on open Internet standards and is accessible from virtually anywhere via the Web or a wireless device. We also liked its appliance-based integration with Mirapoint's other functionality, eliminating the need to purchase an additional product simply to provide calendaring. We considered a number of other enterprise-scale solutions before we picked Mirapoint, and we've been quite satisfied with our choice."

Using the POP protocol to retrieve messages from external mail servers, Mirapoint's Getmail capability greatly simplifies the centralization of all messaging information in a single, unified in-box. For example, users can consolidate email from their free email or other personal accounts into their unified Mirapoint in-box. Messages are automatically filtered, stored in assigned folders, and color-coded according to which external message server they were retrieved from. By using Getmail, users can also take advantage of Mirapoint's built-in features for virus protection and spam filtering of incoming email.

"There is a growing trend among service providers to charge for additional, value-added messaging services," said Satish Ramachandran, chief executive officer for Mirapoint. "These services can be branded and controlled on a per-user and per-domain basis. Our multi-service approach to messaging is designed to make it easy for service providers to offer billable services to their subscribers. For enterprises and other large organizations, various services can easily be assigned to groups and associated with specific user policies, without having to purchase different messaging systems."

Pricing & Availability
Available immediately, group calendar and Getmail are part of the Mirapoint Message Server, an integrated messaging platform based on a unique "architected messaging" approach. Existing owners of Mirapoint products can easily purchase a license key and download an upgrade from the Mirapoint website that includes these new services. Group calendar will be priced on a per-user basis starting around $4-5 per user, with discounts available on volume purchases. Getmail is available at no charge for customers on the latest release of Mirapoint Messaging Operating System 3.2.
