MIRAPOINT CERTIFIES WORKSTATION SOLUTIONS' NEW BACKUP AND RECOVER SOFTWARE TO OFFER CUSTOMERS INCREASED DATA PROTECTION
SUNNYVALE, CA, October 17, 2000 - Mirapoint, Inc., a leading provider of Internet messaging infrastructure products, has certified Workstation Solution’s Quick Restore to provide fail-safe data protection for Mirapoint’s Internet Message Servers. Quick Restore is the first Network Data Management Protocol (NDMP)-based backup and recovery software certified with Mirapoint products. NDMP is an open standard that enables data management in a multi-vendor data server environment.
Workstation Solutions’ Quick Restore data backup and recovery software provides seamless integration among Mirapoint Internet Message Servers, Network Attached Storage (NAS), Linux, UNIX, and Windows platforms in heterogeneous network environments. Quick Restore 2.7, announced today (see separate release) uses NDMP for local or remote backup of data to industry-leading tape drives and libraries. Using NDMP, Quick Restore centrally manages data distributed over the network, while minimizing network traffic. The Mirapoint server support for the NDMP standard enables Mirapoint’s customers to use Quick Restore to insure their data is protected.
"Messaging is a mission-critical application and ISPs, ASPs and enterprises demand high-performing data protection and reliable backup for their messaging solutions," noted Larry Frank, vice president of business development at Mirapoint. "By offering our customers Quick Restore, we will be able to provide them with greater flexibility for data backup and recovery."
"Quick Restore offers Mirapoint customers a proven, reliable solution," according to Jim Ward, president of Workstation Solutions. "Mirapoint customers can use Quick Restore to create a flexible, scalable data protection strategy that meets the high-volume needs of e-businesses and other enterprises."
Mirapoint and Workstation Solutions are early adopters of the NDMP protocol and leaders in the NDMP Working Group of the Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA), which defines the architecture and standardization of NDMP. Mirapoint and Workstation Solutions certified interoperability between Quick Restore and Mirapoint Internet Message Servers as specified in the NDMP protocol. This certification ensures ease-of-installation and maintenance and high availability of the combined solution.
