TelAlaska Switches to Mirapoint's Messaging System

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Sept. 16, 2002 - Mirapoint announced today that TelAlaska, a telecommunications service provider serving more than 25 communities in Alaska, has replaced its Openwave Post.Office product with a dedicated messaging system from Mirapoint. Mirapoint migrated TelAlaska as part of its competitive upgrade program, which is designed to help companies migrate from other vendor solutions.

"The provider of our old messaging system was going to abandon us," said John Fulton, managing engineer for TelAlaska. "When we looked to buy a new solution, we wanted a vendor and a product that could and would stick with us for the long haul. We chose Mirapoint's system because it is versatile, and it offers us the opportunity to generate additional revenue streams and grow our customer base without changing systems."

The majority of messaging systems today are software-based solutions deployed on general-purpose servers. These piecemeal systems are complex, making them difficult to manage and expensive to upgrade. TelAlaska was on the verge of purchasing one of these software-based solutions when it stopped to consider Mirapoint's alternative. Mirapoint's messaging system is designed explicitly for messaging, and it can support traditional e-mail, Webmail and wireless mail all in the same system. This allows Mirapoint customers to leverage their existing assets to improve their service offerings. With one platform, customers can offer many services accessible from any device.

"Messaging is a critical application for service providers, but that doesn't mean it should be difficult to manage. We've been successful because we simplify messaging for our customers," said Satish Ramachandran, chairman and chief executive officer for Mirapoint. "Our products make it easy for customers to scale to support more users, easy to offer new services and easy to migrate away from competitors. Mirapoint allows TelAlaska to keep Alaska connected with a solution that isn't cumbersome."

This high degree of flexibility derives from Mirapoint's unique technology approach to messaging, called "architected messaging"-an integrated hardware and software model highly optimized for performance, reliability, scalability and customization. Architected messaging is Mirapoint's answer to traditional, fragmented solutions that have proven to be unreliable, difficult to manage, expensive to scale and upgrade, and impossible to easily adapt to the specific requirements of the customer. The Mirapoint solution is easy to deploy and manage, while providing a strategic platform for advanced messaging services, including built-in anti-virus and anti-spam features.
