MIRAPOINT NAMES SUN MICROSYSTEMS VETERAN GENE BANMAN PRESIDENT AND CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER
Company Also Appoints Two New Vice Presidents

Sunnyvale, Calif. - July 25, 2000 - Mirapoint, Inc., a leading provider of Internet messaging infrastructure products, today announced that Gene Banman, 49, has been appointed president and chief operating officer (COO). Satish Ramachandran will continue to serve as the company's chairman and CEO. Mirapoint also announced that Matt Johnson is the company's new vice president of engineering and Todd Whitaker has joined as its vice president of product marketing.

"As Mirapoint enters the next phase of its domestic and international growth, Gene's extensive background in network computing and related technologies, business leadership, and international markets will provide the expertise necessary to drive Mirapoint's continued success," Ramachandran said. "Gene will be instrumental in taking our company to the next level and I am very pleased to have him join the Mirapoint team."

A 15-year-veteran of Sun Microsystems, Banman was most recently vice president and general manager of the company's Information Appliances Business Unit, where he was in charge of Sun's thin client strategy and product development. As part of this role he spearheaded the acquisition and integration of StarDivision -- the maker of the StarOffice productivity suite -- into the Sun family of product offerings. Prior to holding that position, Banman held a number of executive management roles at Sun including vice president and general manager of the $3 billion per year Workstation Business Unit, and president of Nihon Sun K.K., Sun's Japanese subsidiary -- growing it four fold in five years.

Prior to joining Sun, Banman held positions at Intel and Data Systems Design, Inc., a mass storage subsystem startup that grew to 250 people and $40 million in sales within four years.

"There is a high demand for reliable and secure Internet messaging infrastructure products and Mirapoint is uniquely positioned to capitalize on existing and emerging markets worldwide," said Banman. "I am very excited about joining Mirapoint and having the opportunity to make the company the industry standard for Internet messaging infrastructure products around the globe."

Mirapoint Adds Two Vice Presidents
To build on the strength and expertise of its management team, Mirapoint recently appointed Matt Johnson as vice president of engineering and Todd Whitaker as vice president of product marketing.

"The additions of Matt and Todd signify that Mirapoint continues to add top-notch business and technology talent to our management team," said Ramachandran. "Matt and Todd will help the company make critical strides towards ongoing product development and marketing initiatives that address the key issues faced by our service provider and business customers around the world."

Johnson, 40, brings over 17 years of experience from such industry leading companies as Silicon Graphics, Convex Computer Corporation, Evans & Sutherland, and Westinghouse Electric. He leads the engineering efforts to support the emerging technologies associated with Mirapoint's Internet messaging infrastructure products. Most recently, Johnson was vice president of software engineering at Silicon Graphics, where he was responsible for the delivery of all software related products including both the Linux and Irix operating systems.

Whitaker, 36, has 10 years of high tech sales and marketing experience. Whitaker leads the marketing strategy, product planning, and product management of Mirapoint's products. Most recently he served as marketing director for Intel's Communication and Internet Server Division. His background includes planning, marketing, and product management of product lines such as rack-mounted server platforms, NetStructure™ server appliances, and motherboard and system technology. In his role as marketing manager for Intel's OEM platform solutions division, he helped create and drive industry adoption of the MicroATX form factor specification.
