Centra Health Selects Mirapoint For Message Network Security
Mirapoint's Message Director Helps Centra Health Guard Against
Spam & Virus Threats
SUNNYVALE, Calif., July 22, 2003 - Mirapoint, a leader in solutions
for message networks, today announced that Centra Health, a regional
non-profit health care system in Central Virginia, has chosen Mirapoint's
Message Director to secure and protect its existing IBM Lotus Notes
email server. Centra Health completed the deployment of Mirapoint's
messaging solution for its 3,000 employees in the first quarter
of this year. Centra Health is using the Mirapoint Message Director
for email routing, anti-virus and anti-spam protection.
Prior to standardizing on Mirapoint, Centra Health used two separate
servers to manage its messaging traffic. One UNIX server was used
for message routing, while a separate server ran virus-scanning
software from Symantec. This patchwork solution quickly became unreliable
and time-consuming for Centra Health to manage. In addition, the
company's employees were still exposed to unwanted spam.
Today, Centra Health is employing one Mirapoint Message Director
to improve the security, reliability and manageability of its message
network. Deployed to front-end Centra Health's existing Notes server,
the Mirapoint solution provides a comprehensive security solution
for Centra Health's users. Through the Mirapoint deployment, Centra
Health was able to consolidate two separate servers into a single,
more manageable solution, while simultaneously adding new security
features and increasing overall message network reliability.
"We decided to implement Mirapoint's Message Director when
our existing solution became increasingly unreliable and difficult
to manage, said Steve Higgins, Systems Engineer at Centra Health.
"We evaluated a number of solutions, including Sendmail's products,
and found that Mirapoint provided a broader set of security features
at a better value than the competition. With Mirapoint's solution,
Centra Health now has an email security solution in place that addresses
our needs for simplicity and reliability. This system also provides
us with all the functionality we need today for spam and virus protection,
and can serve as a platform to provide additional security protection
in the future, as needed."
Mirapoint's Message Director has enabled Centra Health to enhance
the security and reliability of its message network through a combination
of Mirapoint's message routing, anti-virus and anti-spam filters,
content filters, as well as domain-level black and white lists to
manage email traffic. These measures have captured and blocked almost
6,000 spam messages a day, helping boost employee productivity,
as well as allowing Centra Health to better utilize its IT and network
resources.
