Mirapoint Powers the UK's First Multimedia Message Storage Service

SUNNYVALE, Calif., July 9, 2002 - Mirapoint and mobile analyst group Mobile Streams announced today that the United Kingdom's first multimedia message storage service, www.MMSstore.com, has been made available for general use. Mirapoint's M4000 Message Server provides the foundation of the new service. Operating initially as a trial to gauge the acceptance and potential interest in Multimedia Message Service (MMS) in the UK, the service is available to anyone connected to an MMS- enabled mobile network anywhere in the world that has launched MMS services.

"Since MMS enabled phones will have limited memory, the ability to offload images and data to a secure storage bank will be a major selling point for mobile operators offering MMS services," said Steve Ashmore, technical director of Mirapoint UK. "The response to this trial will hopefully prove that there is a considerable market demand for MMS storage services."

More than a dozen operators around the world have already deployed Mirapoint's MMS platform, and Mirapoint is involved in one-third of the world's global MMS trials. The Mirapoint platform is the MMS solution of choice because it provides a centralized storage and access hub for messaging services, so wireless carriers can rapidly integrate multimedia messaging with traditional desktop e-mail, short messaging service (SMS), WAP, i-mode, Web and other revenue-producing services.

Through www.MMSstore.com, users have their own personal dedicated permanent mailbox for multimedia messages, capable of storing several hundred multimedia messages. Messages are accessible from PCs via the Internet, and from MMS phones, via WAP.

"Multimedia messaging is a revolution in mobile communications and information sharing, akin to the transition to Windows in the PC world," said Simon Buckingham CEO of Mobile Streams, which tracks MMS trials at www.mobilemms.com/contracts.asp. "Ideal for stimulating new customer and revenue growth, MMS offers an attractive market opportunity to deliver both existing and future messaging-based services through its ability to support integrated communication of text messaging and multimedia information, including email, video, voicemail, short messaging service and MMS-all from a single in-box."

MMSstore.com has been designed to work with any Ericsson T68 phone, even if a network has not yet launched MMS, or the T68 has not been upgraded to support MMS. The system will also work with any MMS mobile phone, including the Ericsson T68i and P800, the Nokia 7650 and the Motorola A820.
