Mirapoint Delivers Email Upgrade For University of Cincinnati Students
Highly Dependable Email System Also Supplies Virus & Spam Defense to 35,000 Users

SUNNYVALE, Calif., July 2, 2003 - Mirapoint, a leader in solutions for message networks, and reseller partner The Newman Group, a leading provider of information technology products and services, today announced that the University of Cincinnati (UC) has selected Mirapoint solutions to power campus-wide desktop email and Webmail services for its 35,000 students. Mirapoint's messaging systems were selected because they deliver comprehensive messaging services, as well as virus and spam protection, in an integrated and easy-to-use solution.

Prior to standardizing on Mirapoint, UC employed a homegrown email system, which was used by students for basic email services. With students increasingly depending on email-based communications and accessing their accounts from a broad range of different clients, UC's existing solution could no longer scale sufficiently to meet users' demands. For example, UC found that its homegrown system was draining technical staffing resources and had continuous problems ranging from unscheduled outages to unforeseen costs related to hardware or software upgrades.

"At UC, email is used extensively by faculty, staff and students and the university has decided to use this efficient medium to communicate with its students," said Frederick H. Siff, Vice President & CIO, University of Cincinnati. "With the Mirapoint messaging solutions in place, we will realize greater uptime, reduce the management complexity of our message network and increase the reliability and effectiveness of email communications within the University community."

UC will deploy the Mirapoint Message Server to deliver POP, IMAP and Webmail services, as well as the Mirapoint Message Director to secure incoming and outgoing message traffic and guard against spam, virus and hacker attacks.

"Our relationship with Mirapoint gives us the opportunity to provide best-of-breed messaging and security solutions to education customers, like UC, as well as enterprise customers who are looking to bolster the reliability and performance of their message networks," said Anthony J. Comazzi, Vice President, Messaging Solutions, The Newman Group. "By working with Mirapoint, we can offer our customers an ideal set of products that deliver proven uptime with a low total cost of ownership, while also supplying value-added features, such as group calendaring, spam filtering and virus protection."

More than 50 educational institutions around the globe have already successfully deployed Mirapoint systems to increase the reliability and security of their message networks. Mirapoint's approach to messaging effectively delivers features traditionally found only in groupware solutions, while providing the security, scalability and low cost of Unix-based systems that educational institutions demand.

"Like many other universities and enterprises, UC has recognized the importance of using Mirapoint's secure, robust and reliable messaging systems to enhance communications within the entire university community," said Bill Messer, Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales and Customer Services at Mirapoint. "As institutions with message networks recognize that yesterday's entrenched message solutions are no longer sufficient to address today's ever-changing requirements, they are more frequently turning to Mirapoint for a solution that provides the latest in messaging functionality and security, while also reducing the demands on an organization's IT staff."
