MIRAPOINT AND TREND MICRO ANNOUNCE STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP TO DELIVER INDUSTRY-LEADING E-MAIL VIRUS PROTECTION ON AWARD-WINNING DEDICATED E-MAIL SERVERS
Companies Partner to Integrate Trend Micro's Market-Leading Virus Filtering Technology With Mirapoint's IP Messaging Server Appliance

Cupertino, Calif. -- June 28, 1999 -- Mirapoint, Inc., pioneering developer of the industry’s first standards-based IP messaging server appliances, and Trend Micro, the leader in gateway-based virus protection, today announced a strategic technology and marketing alliance that will combine integrated messaging with server-based virus scanning and filtering. According to a memorandum of understanding entered into by Trend Micro and Mirapoint, certain Trend Micro anti-virus software technology will be integrated with Mirapoint’s high-performance IP messaging appliances to provide protection from e-mail-borne viruses.

Mirapoint is escalating its antivirus protection with Trend Micro because e-mail has become the primary means of communication within and between organizations. Since e-mail allows macro and other types of viruses to "hitchhike" on attached files, it is now the primary carrier of viruses. If an e-mail server is not protected, a virus can replicate itself into an enterprise-wide infection that could cause significant financial damage to a company through data restoration costs and lost productivity.

With the addition of Trend’s anti-virus technology, Mirapoint e-mail servers will provide continuous protection against viruses traveling through e-mail and web traffic. Files that are transferred to and from the Internet, as well as all e-mail attachments, will be automatically checked for viruses and malicious code and either cleaned or removed at the gateway, before they can infect the network and damage valuable corporate data. As new viruses emerge, the antivirus software can be easily updated over the Internet.

Pricing and Availability
The integrated product offering from Mirapoint is expected to be available in Fall 1999. Pricing is to be determined.
