MIRAPOINT PARTNERS WITH NASCENT TECHNOLOGIES TO DELIVER WEBMAIL SOLUTIONS TO ENTERPRISES AND SERVICE PROVIDERS
Mirapoint’s IP Messaging Appliances Add Support for Browser-based Client E-mail Access Via Nascent’s Mailspinner™ Messaging Software

CUPERTINO, CA and RESTON, VA. - June 28, 1999 - Mirapoint, Inc., pioneering developer of the industry’s first standards-based IP messaging server appliances, today announced a strategic technology and marketing partnership with Nascent Technologies, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of CMGI, that now enables Mirapoint’s award-winning messaging appliances to deliver web-based e-mail solutions. With the establishment of today’s partnership, the two companies are collaborating to deliver the significant benefits of web-based e-mail to corporations and service providers. Web e-mail advantages include highly flexible access to mail for mobile users, simplified deployment and system administration, and lower cost-of-ownership.

Mirapoint is collaborating with Nascent to pursue expanding market opportunities being created by the widespread adoption of webmail. Service providers are rapidly adding value-added webmail services as an additional revenue source while enterprises are evaluating web-based e-mail as alternatives to traditional client email applications to reduce administrative overhead and deployment costs. And web site operators are offering free web e-mail accounts to attract and retain site traffic.

To capitalize on these market opportunities, Mirapoint is integrating Nascent’s Mailspinner™ software with its award-winning M100 and M1000 IP-messaging server appliances. This will enable corporate end users and service provider customers to easily access e-mail residing on Mirapoint messaging appliances from any web browser operating on any client computer platform. Today’s partnership will also benefit mobile users who will be able to access their Mirapoint-hosted e-mail from palm-held devices, laptops, remote offices, airport kiosks and cybercafes.

"Today’s partnership with Nascent opens up another important market opportunity for us," said Cheena Srinivasan, vice president of marketing with Mirapoint, Inc. "To date, we’ve been focused on business-to-business service providers and corporations. By integrating Nascent’s Mailspinner technology with our M100 and M1000 IP messaging appliances, we’ll be able to leverage Nascent’s strength in reaching consumers through free webmail services offered by portals and by way of ISPs focused on the SOHO market."

"Mirapoint’s IP messaging appliances provide us with a new and significant channel," said John Bennett, vice president of business development with Nascent Technologies, Inc. "Because of the reliability and scalability advantages offered by Mirapoint’s appliance servers, we expect to enter new opportunities in the business-to-business service provider market as well as corporate environments that are trying to figure out how to accommodate their mobile workers’ need for simplified mail access."

By combining the advantages of Mirapoint’s standards-based IP messaging servers with Nascent’s e-mail proxy software, corporate postmasters will be able to lower deployment and maintenance costs since there is no e-mail client to administer. Service providers deploying the Mirapoint/Nascent solution will realize superior scalability as well as predictably fast performance levels. The combined solution has been optimized for horizontal scalability distributed over multiple servers.
