CMG TELECOMMUNICATIONS PARTNERS WITH MIRAPOINT
Two messaging leaders join forces to develop next-generation mobile messaging solutions

Utrecht, The Netherlands, 6 June 2000 - CMG Telecommunications, a world leader in mobile messaging solutions, and Mirapoint Inc., a leading provider of Internet messaging infrastructure products, have joined forces to enable mobile operators to offer their subscribers advanced Internet messaging capabilities. CMG and Mirapoint will work together to blend Internet and wireless technologies for the development of a powerful, scaleable solution. The partnership between Mirapoint and CMG is based on a shared vision to deliver a next-generation messaging architecture that meets the messaging needs of mobile operators today and in the future as they transition to next generation networks. Solutions based on extensions of legacy systems are inevitably either Internet- or wireless-centric and this limits their functionality. These solutions cannot scale efficiently and will not be able to accommodate the need for mobile multimedia.

Peter Maathuis, CMG's Vice President Global Sales & Marketing: "The decision to partner with Mirapoint was an easy one. Mirapoint's dedicated messaging products have been developed for message routing, storage and access and are deployed in a flexible manner. This will make it easy to develop a next-generation mobile infrastructure that incorporates CMG's mobile messaging competence. The final result will be a true, best-of-breed solution."

The two companies will work together to deliver solutions that enable a mobile operator's subscribers to access multiple-media messages from their wireless handsets and any other Internet-connected device. These solutions will be future proof and have advanced features such as Lightweight Directory Application Protocol (LDAP) routing and centralized virus scanning. The solutions are scheduled to ship to network operators and ISPs in the third quarter.

According to Ferris Research, a market research firm based in San Francisco, Calif., the average size of a message will grow by 192 percent this year over 1999. Ferris also predicts that over this same time period, the number of messages will increase by 81 percent from 19 to 34 and the number of messages that need to be stored will increase by 60 percent from 881 to 1410.

CMG and Mirapoint's solutions will be designed to handle the increase in the number of messages, the size of messages and the ability to store multiple types of messages. As a result, service providers will be able to deliver efficient, flexible and rapid access to a synchronized message store. Subscribers will be able to get all of their messages, wherever they are, and will not be limited by the device they are carrying at any given time.

CMG Telecommunications is a world leader in wireless messaging technology and the company has been supplying messaging solutions to network operators for over ten years. In addition, CMG's mobile credentials include the world's most advanced Short Message Service Centre, an innovative Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) Service Broker™, and extensive experience with leading billing and provisioning solutions.

"Together, Mirapoint and CMG will greatly expand a mobile user's accessibility to messages," said Larry Frank, vice president of business development, Mirapoint. "By combining our messaging expertise with CMG's wireless knowledge, we will deliver a solution that offers unparalleled fast, secure and efficient access to any type of message."
