Mirapoint Partners With Wingra Technologies to Deliver E-Mail Migration Services for Enterprises and Service Providers
Mirapoint’s Professional Services Group Collaborates with Wingra to Implement IP-based Messaging Migration Strategies

CUPERTINO, Calif. and MADISON, Wis. - May 24, 1999 - Mirapoint, Inc and Wingra Technologies today announced a strategic worldwide alliance to provide e-mail migration solutions for the rapidly growing number of enterprises moving from proprietary, groupware-based email systems, and service providers transitioning from freeware-based email infrastructures, to Mirapoint’s standards-based IMAP messaging servers. Mirapoint, Inc. is a pioneering developer of function-specific Internet messaging appliance servers for corporations and ISPs. Wingra Technologies provides solutions for e-mail connectivity, directory services, e-mail migration, and messaging integration.

The alliance between Mirapoint and Wingra offers the first solution of its kind to provide a comprehensive set of technologies and methodologies for service providers and enterprises migrating to Mirapoint's e-mail appliances. Furthermore, the affordability and simplicity of the solution removes an entry barrier for service providers wanting to enter the e-mail outsourcing business.

“More than ever, companies face the choice of migrating from proprietary, legacy based messaging systems, which are expensive and complex, to standards-based POP and IMAP messaging solutions, but have been hesitant to proceed out of fear of data corruption problems and lengthy implementation cycles,” said Satish Ramachandran, President and CEO of Mirapoint. “The same is true for service providers deploying freeware-based systems who are beginning to realize that commercially available, standards-based POP and IMAP messaging is much more cost-effective, reliable and scalable than non-commercial alternatives. With the combined messaging migration solutions from Mirapoint and Wingra, there is no longer any basis for these concerns. Through today’s alliance, Mirapoint and Wingra are providing an easy-to-use and rapid migration solution for service providers and enterprises.”

Mirapoint’s professional services group provides processes and tools to easily migrate customers transitioning from LAN or proprietary and legacy UNIX-based mail systems to the POP and IMAP-based Mirapoint system. Wingra specializes in offering customers a migration path from Lotus cc:Mail, Microsoft Mail, Novell GroupWise, Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Notes/Domino to standards-based POP and IMAP messaging systems. As part of today’s strategic alliance with Mirapoint, Wingra has modified its migration tools to be interoperable with Mirapoint’s recently released, next-generation POP and IMAP messaging operating software.

The two companies will leverage Mirapoint’s newly formed Professional Services Consulting Group to execute legacy-to-standards-based messaging migration projects requiring services from both Wingra and Mirapoint. Based on today’s alliance, Mirapoint’s Professional Services Group will subcontract Wingra’s services where necessary on a global basis while Wingra sales executives will recommend Mirapoint server products when appropriate to customers interested in deploying POP or IMAP messaging solutions with worry-free maintenance and administration.

"Both the service provider and enterprise markets are acknowledging that standards-based POP and IMAP email systems have numerous advantages over ‘home-grown,’ freeware-based messaging infrastructures ," said Jan Eddy, CEO and President of Wingra Technologies. "By providing communications services through Mirapoint’s IP messaging servers, we can help the full range of service providers or enterprises migrate end users, aliases and mail routing to the Mirapoint systems. Because there is a clear movement toward Internet-based email, we’re aligning ourselves with industry leading providers of these solutions. Mirapoint is one of the key movers in the IP messaging market which is why we’ve established today’s alliance. We’re looking forward to collaborating on messaging migration projects on a worldwide basis."
