VERITAS AND MIRAPOINT COLLABORATE TO OFFER ENHANCED DATA BACKUP AND RECOVERY TO MIRAPOINT CUSTOMERS

Sunnyvale, Calif. May 16, 2000 - Mirapoint, Inc., a provider of Internet messaging infrastructure solutions, is working with VERITAS® Software Corporation (Nasdaq: VRTS), the industry's leading enterprise-class application storage management software provider, to deliver fail-safe, comprehensive data protection to Mirapoint customers worldwide.

By combining VERITAS software and Mirapoint's messaging solutions to offer increased data protection, Mirapoint is enabling service providers, including the growing Application Service Provider market, with the ability to offer viable outsourcing options. Now, service providers will have the ability to offer their enterprise customers meaningful service level agreements for a hosted messaging application -- in which the service provider will manage the equipment either in its own location or on the customer's premise.

The two companies are currently working together to insure that VERITAS' NetBackup NDMP software is compatible with Mirapoint's Internet Message Server product line. VERITAS NetBackup provides fail-safe data recovery to Mirapoint's customers in the event of a serious power outage or natural disaster. NetBackup supports a diverse range of platforms, and Mirapoint will be implementing the solution based upon the Network Data Management Protocol (NDMP); an emerging standard that has been adopted by a growing number of service providers and businesses around the globe.

Mirapoint's Internet Message Server was designed to manage the increase in message traffic and message volume, and is optimized to deliver robust performance and reliability while keeping management costs exceptionally low. It also has built-in security and supports industry standard such as Post Office Protocol (POP), Internet Mail Access Protocol (IMAP) and Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP).

The VERITAS NetBackup solution is currently in final certification testing and is expected to support Mirapoint's message servers by the end of the second quarter of 2000. All of Mirapoint's current and future message server solutions will be compatible with systems using VERITAS NetBackup NDMP.
