MIRAPOINT ESTABLISHES NEW MILLION-USER MESSAGING PERFORMANCE
RECORD BASED ON RECOGNIZED INDUSTRY BENCHMARK
SUNNYVALE, Calif., May 7, 2002- Mirapoint announced that its new
line of messaging products have established a performance benchmark
by supporting one million SPECmail users. This new message-capacity
record reinforces Mirapoint's position as the world's performance
leader in the Internet messaging industry. This new benchmark was
established in a standard telco computer rack configuration, and
sustained a volume of 14 million messages per day.
The unique integration of hardware and software is the basis for
the Mirapoint system's ability to support multiple millions of subscribers
with industry-best uptime and performance, giving it a tremendous
price-to-performance advantage over piecemeal solutions.
"It has become common for vendors to make unsubstantiated
claims about messaging performance," said Satish Ramachandran,
chairman and chief executive officer of Mirapoint. "By using
the SPECmail benchmark, we assure customers that our claim of industry-best
performance is fair and accurate and that we intend to lead in the
area with the greatest impact on customer satisfaction-first-rate
performance at a competitive cost."
This new SPECmail2001 benchmark configuration uses Mirapoint's
new 4-Series family of products, including the flagship Message
Server M4000 that provides an end-to-end infrastructure for secure
and reliable message storage and access. The M4000 can be configured
as an all-in-one messaging solution or as a component in a multi-tiered
system. The other products in the Mirapoint system include the Message
Director for message processing, filtering and routing and a Directory
Server for user provisioning and authentication.
The new testing result builds on the performance lead Mirapoint
established when it was the first to publish performance numbers
based on the SPECmail benchmark in January 2001. Last month the
company introduced Message Server M4000, which achieved an industry-leading
225,000 SPECMail users.
SPECmail2001, developed by the Standard Performance Evaluation
Corporation (SPEC), is a mail-server benchmark standard designed
to measure the throughput and response time of a mail server in
a real-world environment. SPECmail2001 models the stress placed
on a mail-server system in an ISP consumer environment, simulating
e-mail users' actions such as sending mail, checking for new mail
and retrieving messages. -more- SPECmail2001 was designed and implemented
by, Compaq, Mirapoint, Openwave Systems and Sun Microsystems. Over
the past two years, Netscape, Critical Path, SGI, IBM, Hewlett-Packard
and the University of Pavia (Italy) also contributed to its development.
