FRONTIER COMMUNICATIONS SELECTS MIRAPOINT’S APPLICATION-SPECIFIC SERVERS TO DELIVER CO-LOCATION AND CUSTOMER PREMISE EQUIPMENT E-MAIL SOLUTIONS

CUPERTINO, CA - May 3, 1999 - Mirapoint, Inc., the pioneering developer of function-specific Internet messaging servers for corporations and ISPs, today announced Frontier Communications (NYSE: FRO), has selected Mirapoint’s Internet e-mail thin servers to deliver co-location, customer premise equipment e-mail infrastructure services. Frontier, through its data and Internet arm, Frontier GlobalCenter, is engaging in a customer premise equipment strategy to provide customers with a choice for their applications needs.

Frontier will collaborate with Mirapoint as a strategic channel partner by reselling Mirapoint’s M100 and M1000 Internet e-mail thin servers to drive its co-location and CPE applications programs. The co-location strategy will enable customers to administer their own dedicated, co-located Mirapoint thin server resident at Frontier’s world-class Media Distribution Centers which are connected via the Frontier Optronics NetworkSM. The premise equipment alternative allows a customer to house the Mirapoint thin server at its own facility, which can also be backed up on a shared system at the Media Distribution Centers.

Mirapoint’s thin servers, which feature Internet protocols-based messaging software tightly integrated with application-specific operating software that runs on industry standard hardware, is designed to handle heavy workloads at corporate sites as well as for ISPs. The systems provide highly reliable Internet e-mail infrastructure services, including inbound and outbound e-mail traffic, e-mail delivery, RAID-protected storage and e-mail client access functions. A single M1000 system can support up to 150,000 users, which will enable Frontier to support very large user populations with multiple domains.
