Mirapoint Ships Benchmark-Setting Family of Internet Message Servers
Unique "Architected Messaging" Approach Delivers Industry Best Price-Performance, Reliability

SUNNYVALE, Calif., April 1, 2002 - Mirapoint today introduced its 4-Series of highly efficient, integrated Internet messaging servers that are the easiest to manage, have the lowest total cost of ownership and demonstrate the best price-performance in the industry. Mirapoint's new products offer these advantages because they work together to form an integrated, highly efficient platform that is designed specifically for messaging. This unique "architected messaging" approach is the solution of choice for service providers and enterprises that need to better scale their systems and reduce costs.

Architected messaging is Mirapoint's innovative answer to traditional, fragmented solutions that have proven to be unreliable, difficult to manage and expensive to scale and upgrade. Mirapoint's architecture consists of purpose-built servers brought together into a single comprehensive platform designed to be flexible, secure, and easy to deploy and manage. As a result, Mirapoint delivers unprecedented reliability and performance at a cost per user that is the lowest in the industry.

"Existing approaches to messaging can be complex and piecemeal," said Sara Radicati, president of the Radicati Group, a market research firm based in Palo Alto, Calif. "Service providers and enterprises are often looking for more integrated, application-specific solutions that can scale as needed, are cost-effective and easy to manage. Mirapoint's 'architected messaging' system is exactly such a solution."

The new Mirapoint 4-Series family, including the flagship Message Server M4000, provides an end-to-end infrastructure for secure and reliable message storage and access. The M4000 can be configured as an all-in-one messaging solution or as a component in a multi-tiered system. The new Message Server M400 is designed for customers that serve smaller subscriber bases. The other components of Mirapoint's architecture are the Message Director for message processing, filtering and routing and a Directory Server for user provisioning and authentication.

"Internet messaging has evolved from basic email to a critical application accessible from a broad range of devices," said Satish Ramachandran, chairman and chief executive officer of Mirapoint. "Yet the technology to handle these applications has not kept up. Mirapoint has an integrated, easy-to-manage solution that provides the reliability required by companies for their mission-critical operations."

The 4-Series is built on Mirapoint's open, standards-based platform and integrates seamlessly within a customer's existing infrastructure, allowing service providers and enterprises to deliver a predictable, high-quality user experience. By working within a service provider's infrastructure, the 4-Series provides fast and easy deployment of messaging services, including Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) and unified communications. Enterprises are able to offer advanced extranet and remote workforce services at the lowest possible cost and risk.

A key element of Mirapoint's approach to messaging is Micro-Scalability™, in which virtually every element of the Mirapoint solution can be scaled to give customers the agility to offer new services and features easily-maximizing their market opportunities. For example, service providers can scale from pilot stage to full production without having to invest in extra equipment upfront.

"Mirapoint enables us to offer our customers a powerful messaging service with unprecedented performance," said Steve Pierce, systems engineer, SIGECOM LLC, a total communications provider based in Evansville, Indiana that offers cable, Internet/data, and advanced telephone services on a fiber-optic network. "The new Message Server M4000 is extremely reliable and is very easy to administer and manage. I'm confident our customers will benefit tremendously from the innovation that Mirapoint has invested in its product line."

Price-Performance Leadership. The unique integration of hardware and software gives the Mirapoint system a tremendous price-to-performance advantage over piecemeal solutions. Mirapoint has continued to demonstrate proven performance leadership by achieving 225,000 SPECMail users on a single Message Server M4000, and processing seven million messages per day through the Message Director. Additionally, the 4-Series product line can support a one million-user configuration in a single telco rack.

Proven Reliability. Mirapoint's products maintain 99.999 percent availability, so customers can provide an unfailingly predictable, high-quality user experience. In addition, Mirapoint provides system failover and redundancy for high availability, Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and Secure Shell (SSH) encryption for secure access and message delivery, and protection from spam, denial of service attacks and viruses.

Total Flexibility. With Mirapoint's Micro-Scalability, classes of service are easily defined for a variety of levels-users, domains-and the entire family is easily customized. New or trial services are easily implemented, and advanced services such as calendaring, address book and notifications can be added at any time. Mirapoint also features a highly flexible storage architecture that scales upward as capacity needs dictate.

Unmatched Simplicity. Mirapoint's purpose-built servers are architected to be easy and quick to deploy and manage. Mirapoint offers centralized management, integrated health monitoring, delegated and end-user administration, and Direct Access™ functionality for fast and easy access to Internet and wireless services through the Web, Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) or i-mode, NTT DoCoMo's proprietary wireless access protocol. Other Industry-Leading Features. The new Mirapoint product family offers increased performance and reliability in a much smaller form factor. Other features include multi-processors for performance, single-rack scalability, and support for Gigabit Ethernet networking and Storage Area Networks (SAN).
