VERITAS Software Extends Industry-Leading Data Protection
of Network Attached Storage and Internet Messaging Appliances VERITAS
NetBackup Now Protects Appliances from Procom and Mirapoint, Adding
to Existing Support for Network Appliance, EMC and Auspex Products
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – March 28, 2001 – VERITAS Software
Corporation (Nasdaq: VRTS).
The Data Availability Company, today announced the expansion of
its broad-based data protection support for network-attached storage
(NAS) environments and Internet messaging appliances. VERITAS NetBackup™,
the industry’s leading data protection software for heterogeneous
enterprise environments, has added backup and recovery support for
NAS file servers from Procom Technology and Internet messaging servers
from Mirapoint, joining existing support of NAS devices from Network
Appliance, EMC and Auspex. By providing enterprise-class data protection
for the broadest range of NAS components in the industry and for
key Internet messaging appliances, VERITAS Software gives organizations
the flexibility to deploy and protect NAS and messaging installations
that best meet their storage management needs.
"As organizations increasingly choose network-attached storage
appliances to meet specific file- and data-sharing needs, the ability
to protect the information on those appliances becomes critical,"
said Dennis Martin, analyst, Evaluator Group. "The range of
NAS appliance support offered by VERITAS NetBackup, along with its
ability to provide a comprehensive and complementary backup and
recovery solution for an entire information infrastructure, makes
VERITAS Software a clear leader in this market segment."
VERITAS NetBackup NDMP, a software agent that works with VERITAS
NetBackup™ DataCenter, utilizes the Network Data Management
Protocol (NDMP) to communicate with and provide backup and recovery
services for appliances such as the newly supported Procom NetFORCE
3000 and the Mirapoint Internet Message Server.
"Procom’s NAS filers provide non-stop data availability,
scalability and simplified storage consolidation and management
across multiple platforms," said Page Tagizad, director of
product management, Procom. "By working closely with VERITAS
Software, we can better address the needs of enterprise IT managers
deploying NAS installations through a combination of our NetFORCE
3000 filer, VERITAS Software’s data protection software and
NDMP technologies."
"Our messaging products, such as the Mirapoint Internet Message
Server, help companies to streamline and simplify their Internet
messaging communications," said Matt Johnson, vice president
of engineering, Mirapoint. "VERITAS NetBackup DataCenter and
its NDMP agent offer our customers an industry-leading backup and
recovery solution for these servers, which are quickly becoming
core messaging infrastructure for organizations today."
VERITAS NetBackup DataCenter provides high-speed local backup of
NAS and messaging appliances that doesn’t impact the network.
Another feature, called alternate client restore, conveniently allows
data backed up from one server to be restored to another. VERITAS
NetBackup complements this NAS appliance and message protection
with the ability to protect the rest of the enterprise, providing
organizations with a comprehensive data protection solution across
heterogeneous platforms and applications.
"Our expanded data protection support of NAS and messaging
devices builds upon our commitment to provide flexible, high-performance
backup and recovery solutions throughout the enterprise environment,
providing companies with the choices they need to confidently implement
their information infrastructure," said Neal Ater, senior vice
president, Data Protection Group, VERITAS Software.
