MIRAPOINT ENABLES ARABIC E-MAIL SERVICE TO OUTSOURCE INTERNET
MESSAGING TO UK
Mirapoint, a leading provider of Internet messaging infrastructure
products, has announced that Maktoob, the first Arabic-English e-mail
service, has chosen Mirapoint products to manage the communications
of its half a million, and growing, worldwide e-mail user base.
Mirapoint's complete turnkey solutions provide next-generation messaging
- using purpose-built solutions for message routing, switching,
and storage. Each server used by Maktoob has the capacity to support
some 250,000 users.
Co-located in the UK at Easynet Thames Valley, Maktoob's Mirapoint
Internet Message Servers were chosen after a thorough evaluation
that included products from Openwave, Netscape and Messaging Direct.
One of the reasons Mirapoint was selected over the others was that
it offered richer functionality such as distribution lists, filtering
and anti-virus protection. Also, the other systems had a per-user
price tag that would not be affordable with Maktoob's business model.
Samih Toukan, managing partner of the Jordanian based Maktoob,
explains, "We decided on Mirapoint because it specializes in
messaging solutions, which is our core business. We needed a powerful,
fault-tolerant system that offered seamless management, especially
because we are hundreds of miles away, and did not want to worry
about potential hardware and software problems."
Designed to handle the explosive demand for Internet messaging,
Mirapoint's servers have a performance and reliability far superior
to freeware or general-purpose platforms such as UNIX™ systems
or Windows™ NT servers. Also, because Mirapoint's products
are built as dedicated systems, they avoid the complexity of the
traditional component hardware and software approach, thereby ensuring
that the required in-house e-mail expertise and management costs
are exceptionally low.
Toukan continues, "Since we started using Mirapoint's Internet
Message Servers, our customers have experienced little or no downtime,

Protocol) mail store that could work in a remote location, needed

that it is now using Mirapoint's Internet Message Router to manage
outgoing mail. In the future it will also be utilized for incoming
mail. The router offloads inbound and outbound message routing from
heavily trafficked servers that store e-mail and Internet-based
voicemail messages, faxes, pages and video clips. Designed to handle
upwards of one million messages per day, the router has integrated
virus detection and blocking technology from industry-leader Trend
Micro, to monitor these messages, providing customers with the highest
level of protection available.
