MIRAPOINT RAISES THE VALUE PROPOSITION FOR APPLICATIONS SERVICE PROVIDERS THROUGH EXPANDED HOSTED MESSAGING OPTIONS
New Delegated Domain Administration Capability and Robust Hardware Platform Increases Flexibility and Bolsters Performance of Mirapoint Internet Messaging Server
Cupertino, Calif. - February 22, 2000 - Mirapoint, Inc. today announced an Internet messaging solution which provides applications service providers (ASPs) a wider range of hosted messaging options for their business customers. The Mirapoint Internet Messaging Server enables ASPs to offer Delegated Domain Administration, which allows business customers to administer, manage and control their own hosted email domains. ASPs can now offer messaging as a hosted application — business customers may control their own domains, yet partition system management and service availability to the service provider. Mirapoint's solutions are network appliances that can be deployed instantly, giving customers the flexibility to decide whether their server resides at the ASP's data center or the customer premise. This new functionality helps improve the value proposition for business customers looking to outsource messaging functions, and it ultimately increases customer satisfaction with a wider variety of hosted messaging services.
"We create messaging solutions that continually improve the value proposition for our service provider customers. That is precisely what we intended with our new delegated domain messaging capability," said Larry Frank, vice president of product marketing for Mirapoint. "It enables ASPs to offer business customers the best of both worlds; the ability to control their corporate mailboxes in a hosted environment and eliminate the burden of day-to-day infrastructure maintenance. This new flexibility also helps increase the comfort level of business customers who were previously hesitant about outsourcing messaging functions. They can now outsource the maintenance, while maintaining the integrity and location of corporate messaging information."
The Mirapoint Internet Message Server also features a new hardware platform with a 50 percent increase in message throughput and double the storage capacity. ASPs can now scale their system performance to support an unlimited user base.
"In the competitive service provider market, we are continually looking for ways to differentiate ourselves from competitors, improve overall customer satisfaction and boost productivity," said David Baule, vice president of data services for TotalTel, a leading regional integrated communications provider, based in Little Falls, New Jersey. "The new delegated domain administration functionality and hardware performance of the Mirapoint solution creates a win-win situation. It provides us with more flexibility to create a secure, viable and valuable messaging environment for our business customers — which improves their levels of comfort and satisfaction. And it helps reduce our administrative overhead at the same time."
The Mirapoint 2.0 software release offers a four-tier administration model in which NOC Administrators, Help Desks, Domain Administrators and End Users can have independent access to a subset of tasks, transferring user or domain specific issues to the subscribers. End Users and Domain Administrators can control message management issues specific to their in-box or domain. Help Desk Administrators can access all domains, while the NOC administrator has full access to all domains as well as system management.
The new software release includes a new performance monitor that enables better tracking of peak usage periods for proactively deploying just-in-time expansion. The performance monitor provides system managers with full visibility on system load, including messaging throughput, user connections and hardware utilization. Additional features include server-side message filtering and the ability to customize or brand the user interface.
The Mirapoint Internet Message Server is an application-specific hardware and software solution, making it a true network appliance. Dramatically enhanced hardware platform capability includes:
- Designed for storage intensive (200 MB to 1 GB) per user IMAP requirements.
- Designed for demanding, message intensive ISP/ASP POP requirements.
- Intel-based server hardware configured in a redundant package that protects from disk failure with integrated RAID and protects from power failure with integrated UPS (uninterruptible power supply).
- Supports 36 GB UltraSCSI disk drives for a total message storage capacity of 450 GB per server.
Pricing and Availability
The Mirapoint Internet Message Server with 2.0 software is available today. The new hardware platform is available in two models - Service Provider SP1500 and Enterprise ES1500. List pricing starts at US $36,000.
