Rapidly-Growing Internet Messaging Server Pioneer Appoints Former SunSoft, Sun Microsystems and DEC Veteran, Walt Brown
CUPERTINO, Calif.- (BUSINESS WIRE) - Feb. 22, 1999 - Mirapoint Inc, the pioneering developer of function-specific Internet messaging servers for corporations and ISPs, today announced the appointment of Walt Brown, 51, as Vice President of Worldwide Customer Service. Brown, formerly has been Vice President of Worldwide Support Services with SunSoft, Inc. and Director of Intercon Support for Sun Microsystems' (NASDAQ: SUNW) Service Organization. Brown will develop and oversee Mirapoint's global customer service initiatives.
Mirapoint is the developer of the industry's first high-performance Internet e-mail thin server, an application-specific appliance for standards-based e-mail services. The company is competing in an explosive, rapidly expanding market segment that is being driven by the proliferation of Internet-based messaging standards. Because the burgeoning Internet e-mail user community continues to suffer from service outages due to infrastructure complexities and overburdened system administrators, purpose-built, application-specific thin servers are being forecast as a significant solution to address these problems.

Prior to joining Mirapoint, Brown was Vice President of Worldwide Customer Services with Versant Corporation. Previously, he was Vice President of Worldwide Field Operations with Make Systems, Inc. Brown also spent four years with SunSoft, Inc., as Director of Worldwide Support Services. Brown's twenty year career in high technology also includes positions as Director of Business Operations with Sun Microsystems' U.S. Service Organization, and District Field Service Manager with Digital Equipment Corporation. He is a graduate of the five-year Management of Service Organizations program developed by the Harvard Business School for Digital Equipment Corporation and holds a Master of Science degree in Industrial Management from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn. Brown received his Bachelor of Science in Nuclear Engineering from Lowell Technical Institute.
