MIRAPOINT INCORPORATES RSA ENCRYPTION TECHNOLOGY INTO ITS HIGH-PERFORMANCE INTERNET E-MAIL THIN SERVERS
Addition of Industry’s Most Widely-Used Encryption and Authentication Technology Provides System Administrators and End Users with Beefed Up E-mail Access Security

Cupertino, CA - February 16, 1999 — Mirapoint Inc., the pioneering developer of function-specific Internet messaging servers for corporations and ISPs, today announced it will integrate RSA’s BSAFE™ Crypto-C and BSAFE™ Crypto-J cryptographic components into its high-performance Internet e-mail thin servers. With today’s technology licensing agreement with RSA, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Security Dynamics Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: SDTI), Mirapoint is among the earliest Internet e-mail server vendors to add RSA-based security functionality in order to provide system administrators and end users with highly secure e-mail session connections.

As the developer of the industry’s first high-performance Internet e-mail thin server, Mirapoint is delivering a purpose-built, application-specific appliance for standards-based e-mail services. This new class of messaging appliance enables corporations and ISPs to deliver highly reliable, cost-effective and easily scalable e-mail services that can keep pace with the exploding number of Internet e-mail users and their associated storage requirements.

System administrators of Mirapoint’s M100 and M1000 Internet e-mail thin servers will benefit from today’s announcement by having their administration sessions transparently encrypted and authenticated. This is particularly important in order to prevent system administrator’s passwords from being intercepted and to ensure that only authorized personnel are entitled to add new users and specify passwords. Internet E-mail clients accessing Mirapoint servers will also benefit by having their entire connection session protected by the new encryption capabilities.

"We continue to hear from our growing customer base that e-mail is a major intellectual property asset that has to be safeguarded," said Cheena Srinivasan, Vice President of Marketing with Mirapoint. "To satisfy this need for enhanced security, Mirapoint has established a technology licensing agreement with RSA, the leader in electronic data security and authentication technology. By adding RSA-based security features to our thin servers, which already have inherent security advantages provided by our embedded operating software, the M100 and M1000 will meet and/or exceed the e-mail security requirements of virtually all corporations and ISPs."

RSA’s BSAFE Crypto-C is one of the world’s best-selling cryptography engines and provides software developers with multiple algorithms and modules for adding encryption and authentication features to applications. BSAFE Crypto-C includes modules for popular security encryption techniques, such as RSA, DES, RC2, RC4, and Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC), and also supports digital signatures and certificates. BSAFE Crypto-J is RSA’s cryptographic software designed specifically for Java which provides a best-of-class implementation for the most important privacy, authentication and data integrity routines.

"Mirapoint’s licensing agreement with RSA extends our encryption technology further into the growing Internet e-mail market," said Scott Schnell, senior vice president of marketing for RSA and Security Dynamics Technologies, Inc. "As more and more companies turn to Internet-based e-mail as their vehicle for information sharing within an organization and with partners and customers, security will become an increasingly important consideration."
